Eligibility for Healthy Moms Trial

Eligibility for the study depends on several requirements. Weight at the start of pregnancy is one of them. If your weight at the start of your pregnancy was at or above the weight shown in the table below, you may be eligible to participate in the Healthy Moms research study.

If your height is not shown in this table, please call us at the number below to determine your weight eligibility.

Some of the additional eligibility requirements for this study include:
  • Age 18 or older
  • Membership in Kaiser Permanente Northwest
  • Plans to stay in the Portland area for one year following the birth of your baby
  • Willingness to be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to either the group of women who will receive one counseling session, or the group that will attend weekly counseling sessions throughout their pregnancy
  • Agreement to return to the Center for Health Research for two visits one at 2-weeks and the other at one year following birth of your baby for follow-up measurements of health and eating patterns.

Women who are currently under treatment for cancer, kidney disease, or heart disease, or who have had weight loss surgery are not eligible to participate.
