The purpose of the Healthy Moms study is to test a new program designed to help women reduce their risk of weight-related health problems during pregnancy. These problems can affect both the mothers and the babies. All women who join the Healthy Moms study will meet with a health counselor to develop an individual nutrition plan. Healthy diets can help you lose weight and keep your baby healthy. Some women will also be asked to attend weekly weight management classes at the Center for Health Research until they deliver their baby.

The Healthy Moms study is being conducted at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research, in Portland, Oregon, with funding from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Recruitment for the project will start in the fall of 2009 and will continue until early 2011.
