Weight Management Study (LIFE)

You may be eligible to take part in an exciting new weight management study at the Center for Health Research!

The LIFE study is funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. This study will compare two programs to help people maintain weight loss.

For 6 months, all those who join the weight loss program. The program will use diet and exercise to help each person lose at least 10 pounds. Those who meet this goal will be assigned at random to one of two programs designed to keep the weight off.

Both of the programs to keep weight off last 6 months. One program is a social support group, and the other will teach members a self acupressure method. The purpose of the LIFE study is to see which of these two programs is better at helping people maintain weight loss.

You may be eligible for the study if:

  • You are at least 30 years of age
  • You are overweight, with a body-mass index of 30-50
  • You live in the metro Portland/Vancouver area
