We are pleased to make available for downloading our group, cognitive-behavioral interventions. This includes several different programs:

  • A group treatment intervention for actively depressed adolescents (the Adolescent Coping With Depression [CWD-A] Course).

    • This also includes a separate intervention for the parents of these depressed adolescents.

  • A group prevention intervention for youth at risk for future depression (the Coping With Stress [CWS] Course).

  • A brief, individual treatment program (5 to 9 sessions) for depressed youth who are also receiving SSRI anti-depressant medication.

This site is now the only method for obtaining copies of these programs. We no longer distribute paper copies of these programs.

TOP Use of These Materials

These materials are for the use of mental health professionals, to deliver group cognitive-behavioral treatment or prevention to teenagers. These are not self-help materials for the direct use of depressed teenagers and their families.

TOP Instructions for Downloading

For each intervention, there are two files to download (see below). Both are necessary in order to conduct the intervention program. The two documents are (a) the manual for therapists (group leaders) and (b) the workbook for adolescents or parents. Each therapist will need a manual, and each youth in the group will need his/her own workbook. Download each document once, and then print out or photocopy the needed number of documents.

Each document is relatively large and should take some time to download. We strongly suggest downloading these files from a computer with a high speed Internet connection. High speed connections are typically found at work locations, public libraries, etc. Individuals report frequent problems when attempting to download these documents using a slow Internet connection (typically using a 56K modem).

In order to view and print these files, you must install on your computer the Adobe Acrobat reader software. This is a free software add-in to your Internet browser and can be obtained by clicking on the "Get Acrobat Reader" button below.

TOP Printing Recommendations

We strongly recommend that you print these files on the highest resolution printer you have available (at least 600 dpi). The printer must be capable of rendering Post-Script Level 2 instructions.

TOP Photocopy and Use

We encourage you to employ these intervention programs in your own research and/or clinical practice. Although the manuals are copyrighted, we are suspending copyright limitations so that you can make duplicate copies of the adolescent workbooks. However, you are prohibited from selling any of these materials or distributing them in order to make a profit. Your downloading of these materials constitutes your acknowledgement and acceptance of these terms.

TOP Files for Downloading

Please use the table below to carefully determine whether you need the treatment or prevention program. They share some similarities, so it is easy to confuse them. The files to download are in the last two columns of this table ("Downloadable Therapist Manual" and "Downloadable Teen Workbook"). Just click on the file name to open it up in the Adobe Acrobat Reader program.
