KPNW Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Kaiser Permanente Northwest is housed in the Research Subjects Protection Office (RSPO) at the Center for Health Research. The purpose of the IRB is to ensure that the rights and welfare of human research study participants are protected. The IRB is supported by KPNW to ensure that all research, whether located at CHR or in the clinics or administrative structure of the region, is conducted in accordance with federal regulations. The IRB may require a research sponsor for those seeking to conduct approved research. The new IRB chair, Melanie Plaut, MD, MPH, has recently written guidelines to help non-CHR potential researchers stay within IRB requirements. More details on the IRB and its processes are available at the Kaiser Permanente Research Subjects Protection Office Web site
