David Feeny, PhD, is a health economics researcher whose research
focuses on measuring health-related quality of life. Prior to his appointment
at CHR, Dr. Feeny was a Professor of Economics at the University of Alberta and a scholar-in-residence at CHR. He is an international expert on health
utilities and a developer of the Health Utilities Index (HUI). This widely used
tool allows health-related quality of life assessment across large, diverse
populations. HUI has been used as an outcome measure in clinical trials, in
clinical studies, and in various population health surveys.
Dr. Feeny serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of
Technology Assessment in Health Care and Medical Decision Making,
and until
recently served as an Associate Editor of Quality of Life Research. He has served as a consultant to the Ontario Ministry of Health, Health Protection Branch of the federal government of Canada, World Bank, Canadian International Development Agency, and Agency for International Development. He has also served as a member of a Panel of the National Academy of Sciences. Recently, he served on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Canadian Coordinating Office for Health Technology Assessment. Dr. Feeny is Immediate Past President of the International Society for Quality of Life Research, and is a past president of the International Association for the Study of the Commons Property.
