Melissa L. Finucane, PhD, Investigator
Dr. Finucane is a psychologist interested in understanding human judgment and decision-making. Blending an applied focus on real-world problems with an interest in basic psychological experimentation, Dr. Finucane is interested in adapting existing paradigms and developing new methods to make the study of subtle decision processes more tractable.

Her current research focuses on the interplay of cognition and emotion in human judgment and decision-making; the role of socio-cultural values in the perception of environmental, health, and financial risks; risk communication challenges; and how decision competence is affected by aging-related socio-psychological changes.

Dr. Finucane received a master's degree and a PhD in psychology from the University of Western Australia in 1998. Prior to joining CHR Hawai'i, Dr. Finucane worked as a research scientist at Decision Research in Eugene, Oregon. She is a member of the Society for Risk Analysis, the Society for Judgment and Decision Making, the American and Australian Psychological Societies, and the Psychologists' Board of Western Australia.
