Dr. Carla Green is a health services researcher, focusing on improving mental health and substance abuse services. Her background is in social psychology, and she is interested in how individual beliefs and behavior affect, and are affected by, the familial, social, and health care systems
Dr. Green received a Fulbright award for her dissertation work, conducted in Morocco, exploring the effects of social networks and social support on women's physical health and emotional well-being. Subsequent work in Morocco examined quality of life among treated and never-treated patients with schizophrenia, comparing them to similar patients in the United States and Morocco. She was Principal Investigator of the NIMH-funded study Recoveries from Severe Mental Illness, and the NIAAA-funded study Gender, Drinking Patterns, Health & Services Seeking.
Dr. Green holds a PhD in Systems Science-Sociology, with a specialization in Social Psychology, from Portland State University and an MPH, with a concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, from Oregon Health and Science University. She received a National Research Service Award post-doctoral fellowship from the Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research. She also received the Oregon Health & Science University Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Chairman's Award for Excellence in Research in 2003.
In addition to her role as a Senior Investigator at the Center for Health Research, Dr. Green is a Clinical Associate Professor of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, and of Psychiatry, at Oregon Health & Science University. She chairs the National Institute of Mental Health's Committee on Health Services Research in Specialty Settings.
