Sheila Weinmann, PhD, MPH, Investigator
Sheila Weinmann, MPH, PhD, is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on cancer screening and etiology. Her interests also include pharmacoepidemiology and studies of gene-environment interaction in disease etiology and progression.

She has been the principal investigator on epidemiologic studies of prostate cancer screening efficacy, molecular factors in relation to fatal prostate cancer, renal cell cancer risk factors, molecular biology of renal cell cancer progression, and herpes zoster. She also conducts research on breast and cervical cancer, vaccinations, influenza, and varicella.

Dr. Weinmann received her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. As a research scientist in the Cardiovascular Health Research Unit at the University of Washington, she worked on case-control epidemiologic studies of cardiac arrest.

In addition to her research with CHR, Dr. Weinmann is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine of Oregon Health & Science University. She is also a former Executive Director of the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board and has worked on several studies of health problems among American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Current Studies:
  • A Phase III Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy, Immunogenicity, Safety, and Tolerability of Zostavax in Subjects 50-59 years of Age—Zostavax
  • Herpes zoster in children
  • Molecular Epidemiology of Fatal Prostate Cancer
  • Post-licensure Safety Surveillance Study of Routine Use of Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis Vaccine Adsorbed—ADACEL
  • Rapid Surveillance for Influenza-Like Illness – ILI Surveillance

    Recently Completed Studies:
  • Cervical Cancer Screening in Older Women—CA CX
  • Molecular Epidemiology of Renal Cell Cancer—RCC DNA
  • Predictions of Prostate Cancer Screening
