The Center for Health Research Southeast
The Center for Health Research expanded to the Southeast in 2006, continuing the
10-year agenda of innovative public domain research in Kaiser Permanente’s Georgia (KPG)
region. CHR Southeast (CHR-SE) is based in Atlanta, Georgia. It engages in
research on health services and chronic disease prevention
and epidemiology that
is especially attuned to the health issues of the local population. CHR-SE also
conducts clinical trials of vaccines and pharmaceuticals.
CHR-SE receives its funding from federal agencies, state agencies, private foundations,
and private
companies. CHR-SE has established scientific collaborations
with a variety of research communities and consortia. This includes associations
such as The Cancer Research Network (CRN), The Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERT) and The Coordinated Clinical Studies Network
(CCSN).
The membership of KPG has a racial
and socioeconomic distribution that is similar to the surrounding metropolitan Atlanta region: about 50% Caucasian, 45% African American,
4% Hispanic, and 1% other races. 90% of the KPG membership receives primary care at 12 medical
offices owned and operated by KPG. KPG also provides primary care through
contracts with 125 community practices.
