Beth Waitzfelder

Dr. Beth Waitzfelder, a sociologist, is interested in research on quality of care, diabetes, health care disparities, and mental health with co-morbid chronic illness. Some of her current research looks at improving diabetes care and outcomes in managed care settings and among minority populations.

Dr. Waitzfelder developed and continues to work on the Hawaii Diabetes Data Network, a collaborative, statewide diabetes database to support research and quality improvement. Prior to coming to CHR-Hawaii, Dr. Waitzfelder was the assistant director of research and evaluation at a psychiatric center in New York and an investigator at the Pacific Health Research Institute.

She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her doctorate in sociology from the University of Hawaii. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality.
