Screening and Treatment for Low Bone Mineral Density after Fracture — Merck Bone Density

Adrianne C. Feldstein, Principal Investigator
Patricia J. Elmer, Teresa A. Hillier, Co-Investigators

Patients who have had a prior osteoporotic fracture are at high risk for future fractures. National and international evidence-based clinical guidelines state that a prior fracture in an older individual warrants either direct initiation of treatment or bone mineral density screening followed by treatment as appropriate. This award will support evaluating recent patterns of screening and osteoporosis treatment in older patients with prior fracture at Kaiser Permanente Northwest; comparing screening and treatment practices with guideline recommendations; and publishing the results.
