Robert Davis, MD, MPH is an epidemiologist who serves as Associate Director of THCR’s Southeast region. His research focuses on pharmacogenomics, drug safety, vaccine safety and efficacy studies, and evidence-based medicine. Dr. Davis is a board-certified pediatrician with over 20 years’ experience conducting innovative health care research.

Dr. Davis serves as the Principal Investigator for the Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics’ (CERTs) HMO Research Network Site, which is conducting ground-breaking drug-safety research on the use of antibiotics and evaluating the appropriateness of dosing for specific drugs and diseases. He also serves as the Principal Investigator for the CERTs’ Prescribing Safety study, which is detecting ambulatory prescribing and lab monitoring errors. In addition, he also conducted a similar study focused on prescribing safety for pregnant women. Dr. Davis is a Co-Investigator on the CDC-funded Vaccine Safety Datalink project, which is assessing adverse outcomes of vaccines in adults and children. He also served as the principal investigator for the AHRQ-funded study exploring appropriate prescription medication dosing for children. This study built upon Dr. Davis’s earlier AHRQ-funded work conducting a randomized controlled trail exploring whether a computerized evidence-based decision support system could improve the quality of care for children.

Prior to his appointment leading the Southeast region of TCHR, Dr. Davis served as the Director of the CDC’s Immunization Safety Office, where he first served as Senior Advisor to the Vaccine Safety Datalink project. Before his tenure at the CDC, he served as a Professor of Pediatrics in the University of Washington’s School of Medicine and a Professor of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health. Dr. Davis has published over 100 articles and serves as a reviewer for 14 journals, including JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine. He is a recipient of the National Research Award (1991-1993) and the CDC’s James H. Nakano Citation for outstanding scientific paper.
