Because CHR has forged strategic partnerships, we can respond to changing national priorities. Collaborative research networks allow our researchers to work with varied research populations and in a full spectrum of clinical practice settings from urban centers to small towns and rural communities.
Oregon Evidence-based Practice Center (Oregon EPC)
The Oregon EPC is a collaboration of Oregon Health & Science University, the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the CHR. The Oregon EPC’s main objectives are to synthesize existing scientific literature about important health care topics and promote evidence-based practice for use by policy makers in decisions on guidelines and coverage issues.
OCTRI
OCTRI’s mission is to enhance clinical and translational research with dedicated leadership, resources, and an institutional commitment to transform research. Part of our mandate to transform research includes bringing together two very different organizations: CHR and the Oregon Health & Science University.
Centers for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERTS)
CERTS was established, in 1999, by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to provide objective information about therapeutic safety and quality. A network of 14 research centers performs scores of independent research projects knit together in a single mission of patient safety. The CERTs program has shed light on the practical use and efficacy of hundreds of drugs, medical devices, and biological products, used by millions of people.
HMO Research Network (HMORN)
CHR is a member of the HMORN, which includes 15 health plans across the nation that cover over 4% of the US population. The HMORN participates in federally-funded, multi-site research studies that integrate research and practice to improve health and health care. Because these managed care organizations have comprehensive data, HMORN studies have had profound impact on public policy and practice.
Cancer Research Network (CRN)
CHR is part of the CRN, which consists of 10 members of the HMO Research Network, with about 9 million enrollees. CRN aims to increase the effectiveness of preventive, curative and supportive interventions for major cancers, through collaborative research spanning the natural history of major cancers among diverse populations and health systems.
Cardiovascular Research Network (CVRN)
The CVRN collaborates on research studies that will enhance cardiovascular disease (CVD) health care surveillance. It promotes research on clinical practice and quality of care, assesses new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and evaluates clinical guidelines and their impact on CVD incidence, prevalence, clinical care, and patient outcomes over time.
Oregon Community Health Information Network (OCHIN)
OCHIN is a health information system collaboration among public and private non-profit organizations providing health care services to uninsured and Medicaid patients. In 2004, CHR established a collaborative partnership with the OCHIN to enhance the capacity of OCHIN health centers to generate and assess research questions of interest to them and the vulnerable populations they serve.
